Cone Beam CT Dental Imaging
in Greenville, SC

Cone Beam CT dental imaging gives our doctors a detailed 3D view of your teeth, roots, jawbone, nerve pathways, sinuses, airway structures, and surrounding anatomy.

At Southern Laser Dentistry, this advanced diagnostic technology is used when traditional dental X-rays do not provide enough detail. It helps us better understand complex dental concerns, plan treatment more precisely, and explain your options clearly before care begins.

Advanced 3D Imaging for Clearer Diagnosis and More Precise Treatment Planning

A Clearer View Before Treatment Begins

Some dental concerns cannot be fully evaluated with standard 2D X-rays alone.

Cone Beam CT imaging allows our doctors to view dental and facial structures in three dimensions, helping us evaluate areas that may be difficult to see with traditional imaging. This can be especially helpful for surgical planning, implant evaluation, complex tooth pain, impacted teeth, infection concerns, bone structure, and airway-related assessments.

The goal is not to take more images than necessary. The goal is to use the right imaging at the right time when it can improve diagnosis, treatment planning, or patient care. The FDA notes that dental CBCT provides 3D information rather than the 2D information from conventional X-rays and may help with diagnosis, treatment planning, and evaluation of certain conditions.

When Cone Beam CT Imaging May Be Recommended

Tooth pain can have many causes — some simple, some more complex. The key is identifying it early.

Is Cone Beam CT
Safe?

Cone Beam CT uses X-ray technology, so it does involve radiation exposure. That is why we do not recommend it casually or routinely for every situation.

At Southern Laser Dentistry, CBCT imaging is used when the expected diagnostic benefit outweighs the risk of exposure. The FDA states that when an X-ray imaging exam is medically appropriate, the clinical benefit generally outweighs the small radiation risk, but efforts should still be made to minimize exposure.
